History of updates to the interlinear translation:

This collection was begun in 2002 as a Russian interlinear. The Ukrainian row was added in August 2026 and the English row later the same year. Everything dated before 2026 therefore concerns the Russian side of the work: where an entry below says that a book was added, or that a rendering was corrected, or that typos were removed from the texts of the interlinear, it is the Russian rendering that is meant. Where an entry concerns something else — the Greek or the Hebrew original, the concordances, the PDF files, the software — that is said in the entry itself.
The Synodal translation, the Modern Russian translation, the Church Slavonic Bible and Lopukhin’s Explanatory Bible, which the entries below mention, are all in Russian and remain so.

  • Photographs of two more manuscripts now stand under the verses of 1 Enoch: the Codex Panopolitanus and Chester Beatty Papyrus XII.
  • In the concordances of word forms, Greek and Hebrew, each form now shows which forms stand behind it in the Septuagint or in the Masoretic text; a click opens the passages. In the Hebrew concordance a click on a word of the interlinear opens the card of that word rather than the whole section.
  • On a phone the first tap on a Greek or Hebrew word opens its card and the second goes to the concordance; links of the site open in the same window, and “back” returns to the chapter.

  • 27.10.2026
  • Selected interlinear text is now copied in a form ready to paste: into Word and other editors as a word-over-word table, into e-mail and messengers as plain text, and always with a link to the passage. The Share window has a new “Copy text” button, and the copying format can be chosen in the settings.

  • 26.10.2026
  • Parallel passages and quotations under the verse have been added (the “parallels” switch above a chapter): in the New Testament the Old Testament passage quoted, in the words of the Septuagint, the same passage in the other Gospels and the same quotation in other writers; in the Old Testament the New Testament places that quote the verse, and the parallels within the Old Testament, in Greek and in Hebrew. The words that match are highlighted both in the parallel and in the verse itself. Parallel passages can also be read whole, side by side — the synopsis (in the “parallels” list above a chapter and in the box under a verse): the four Gospels, Kings and Chronicles, Isaiah and 2 Kings, the doubled psalms, 1 Esdras, Ephesians and Colossians, Jude and 2 Peter.
  • Biblical places have been added (in “Concordances”, the “Reference” section; the pages are in Russian): every place named in Scripture has a page with a map — where it is, what is near, what is known of it and where it is mentioned; one map of all places with the routes of the biblical journeys; in the Greek, Hebrew and side-by-side interlinears, hovering over a place name shows which place is meant.
  • In the Greek and Hebrew concordances of dictionary forms, each word now shows how it is spread across the books of the Bible.
  • Bible realia have been added (in “Concordances”, the “Reference” section): animals, plants, human-made things, weights, measures and money of the Bible — what they were, their names in the original languages and where they are mentioned, the measures in the metric system; hovering over a word in the interlinears, and under a word’s entry in the concordances, shows which thing is meant. The biblical person card now also stands in the main concordances, not only in the dictionary forms.

  • 25.10.2026
  • The variant readings of the manuscripts and the way they are presented have been optimized — all the material on manuscripts in the interlinear, formerly scattered, is now gathered in manuscripts and editions (searchable and filterable; the sigla of the variants lead there). Also, in the New and in the Old Testament one can now choose the period of the manuscripts to show and the way to show them — as a list after the verse, at the place of the variant itself (with the word translated), or both.
  • A concordance of names has been added — Biblical persons (in “Concordances”, the “Reference” section; the pages are in Russian): every person named in Scripture has a page — who they were, their family, where they are mentioned and their place in the family tree, with ancestors and descendants highlighted; in the Greek, Hebrew and side-by-side interlinears, hovering over a name shows which person is meant.

  • 24.10.2026
  • Accumulated shortcomings in the Hebrew interlinear translation — in the Russian, Ukrainian and English rows, the morphology and the Strong’s numbers — and in the commentary on the Old Testament from the Hebrew, in the headwords of the Strong’s dictionary and in the Hebrew dictionary have been corrected; the PDF books have been updated.
  • One more manuscript under the verse in the New Testament: Codex Ephraemi. It is a palimpsest whose ancient script is hardly visible, so the verse is shown on the page of Tischendorf’s edition, set line for line with the manuscript.
  • In the box under the verse (the “translation” box), in the New Testament and in the Old Testament from the Hebrew, pointing at a word of the Russian Synodal translation highlights the matching words of the interlinear, and the other way round.
  • The interlinear and the literary translation can now be read in MyBible and SWORD (Android, AndBible, Xiphos, BibleTime); the modules and how to install them are on a separate page, which is also linked from the home page.

  • 15.10.2026
  • My literary translation of the Old Testament from the Greek and the Latin (in Russian) has been added — complete at last; I have tried to make it as accurate and as convenient as I could: alternative renderings at disputed places, notes on the choice of words; it is also shown under the verse of the interlinear (the “translation” box), where pointing at a word of the interlinear highlights the matching word or phrase of the literary translation, and the other way round, and as a PDF book.
  • In the “side by side” view, pointing at a word of the Septuagint highlights the matching word or phrase of the Hebrew text, and the other way round, while a word that the other tradition does not have is shown in grey, and one whose counterpart was moved elsewhere in blue.

  • 09.10.2026
  • Accumulated shortcomings in the Greek interlinear translation and in the commentary on the New and Old Testaments have been corrected.

  • 07.10.2026
  • Photographs of new manuscripts under the verse: in the Hebrew interlinear the “manuscripts” box shows the Leningrad and Aleppo Codices and Codex Sassoon 1053; in the New Testament Codex Alexandrinus, Codex Washingtonianus, Codex Bezae and Papyrus 75 have been added, and in the Greek Old Testament Codex Vaticanus; the manuscripts you want are chosen from the list that opens on a click on the “manuscripts” label, and all of them are described on the page “Manuscripts beneath the verse”.
  • More manuscripts under the verse: in the Greek Old Testament Codex Alexandrinus and Codex Chisianus (the Book of Daniel in the Septuagint) have been added, Codex Vaticanus now also appears in Daniel according to Theodotion, and in the Latin 2 Esdras the Codex Ambianensis. The places of the verses on the images of all the manuscripts were found and checked by me, semi-automatically; for Codex Sinaiticus the ready word positions of the Codex Sinaiticus Project served as the basis, and for Codex Sassoon 1053 the verse marks of IHBMR.
  • A “colours” box has been added to the interlinears: the words of the original are coloured by part of speech, and the list that opens lets you keep only the parts of speech you want; the colouring works in the line-for-line view too.

  • 05.10.2026
  • The “manuscripts” box now also shows Codex Vaticanus under a New Testament verse and Codex Sinaiticus under an Old Testament verse; the enlarged view can zoom in and out to the whole page and change brightness and contrast, or show a negative.

  • 04.10.2026
  • A “manuscripts” box has been added to the New Testament interlinear: under a verse it shows a photograph of that place in Codex Sinaiticus; a click on the image opens it enlarged.
  • Fixed an error that prevented the display of full information regarding Hebrew interlinear words in the Concordance of Hebrew Word Forms.
  • The Hebrew–Russian Dictionary of Old Testament Vocabulary is now available as a separate PDF book with a preface (in Russian), for printing and on-screen reading.

  • 03.10.2026
  • A commentary on the interlinear translation of the Book of 3 Esdras from Latin has been added. A PDF version of the interlinear translation containing these commentaries is also available.
  • Fixed accumulated issues.

  • 02.10.2026
  • Commentary on the interlinear translation has been added for all remaining books translated from Greek. PDF versions of the interlinear translation containing these commentaries are also available.
  • Besides the printed editions, the concordance of variant readings now includes the manuscripts themselves — about thirteen hundred of them: manuscripts of the New Testament earlier than the year 400 (among them the codices Sinaiticus, Vaticanus and Alexandrinus, Codex Bezae and the papyri), manuscripts of the Gospel of John and of the letters of Paul (IGNTP), manuscripts of the Münster Institute (INTF), and Codex Sinaiticus for the Old Testament. Each manuscript has a page of its own: where it is kept, its date, contents and type of text. The Psalms of Solomon and the Book of Enoch were added, as well as the differences between the editions in accents and breathings.
  • The concordance of ways of dividing the text was built anew from the present text of the interlinear and now covers all the Greek books: the dictionary used for the analysis is twice the size of the former one, and the merging of two words into one is taken into account as well. The places known in textual criticism (Mk 10:40, Rom 7:14, 1 Tim 3:16 and others) are marked and explained. The text of a chapter is shown in ordinary Greek writing, and the number of a verse opens the interlinear translation.

  • 24.09.2026
  • Commentary on the interlinear translation has been added for all remaining books translated from Hebrew and for another 13 books translated from Greek. PDF versions of the interlinear translation containing these commentaries are also available.

  • 21.09.2026
  • Added commentary on the translation of the following books from the Greek: Deuteronomy, Numbers, Leviticus, Job, and Proverbs. PDF versions of the interlinear translation with this commentary are also available.

  • 20.09.2026
  • Fixed issues regarding the content and wording of commentary for the interlinear translation of New Testament books and the "Russian + Commentary" PDF books.

  • 19.09.2026
  • Added a commentary on the interlinear translation of the Book of Exodus (Greek text).
  • Fixed issues regarding the content and formatting of commentary for the interlinear translation of New Testament books and the "Russian + Commentary" PDF books.

  • 11.09.2026
  • Added commentary on the translation of the following books from the Hebrew: Psalms, Ezekiel, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Job, Proverbs, 1 Samuel, and 2 Samuel.

    08.09.2026
  • Added commentary on the translation of the Book of Genesis.
  • Interface improvements.
  • Bug fixes.

  • 06.09.2026
  • A commentary on the Russian rendering of the New Testament was added; the link to it stands at the foot of the text of every chapter of the New Testament. The commentary itself is in Russian, like the rendering it explains.
  • A new set of PDF books was added: Russian + commentary.
  • An English interface was added, for those who have no Russian.
  • A new set of PDF books was added: English.
  • I thank Mikhail Razumeyko for reports of errors and slips.

  • 27.08.2026
  • The Ukrainian row of the New and the Old Testament was read through and corrected against the Russian row of the interlinear, which is the older of the two.
  • The English row of the New and the Old Testament was added and read through, against the Russian and the Ukrainian rows already in place.
  • Sets of PDF books were added as well: Russian + English, Russian + Ukrainian + English, and Ukrainian + English.

  • 13.08.2026
  • Ukrainian rows were added to the interlinear. The language of the row is chosen in the settings or by the switches above every chapter. They are available in PDF too.

  • 04.08.2026
  • A link to a place in the Bible, sent to a messenger or posted to a social network, no longer looks like a bare string of an address: a card appears beside it — the icon of the collection, the name of the place in words and the first lines of the text itself. The text in the card is taken from the section the link leads to, so the Greek interlinear, the Hebrew one and the literary translation each have their own. Links to a chapter, to the contents and to the service pages — the primer, the guided tour, the concordances — are labelled in the same way.
  • Two more literary translations were added beside the Synodal one, and both, like it, are for the Russian-speaking reader: the Modern Russian translation of the Russian Bible Society and the Church Slavonic Bible (the Elizabethan Bible, 77 books together with the deuterocanonical ones). The Church Slavonic is shown in the true ecclesiastical letterforms, with a font of its own; with the «pronunciation» box ticked, the reading of every word is written under it. The translation is chosen from a list in the bar above the chapter, each has an introduction of its own, and the links from the interlinears and the cross-references lead into whichever translation is chosen.
  • The Greek Old Testament and the Hebrew one were set line against line: on the left the Greek word with its rendering, on the right the Hebrew word with its own, and between them a mark of correspondence. 930 pairs of chapters in 39 books were matched; it is marked where the numbers or the boundaries of the verses part company, and where a verse stands in one tradition only. The correspondence was not copied out of tables but measured on the interlinear itself: both halves are rendered in one and the same Russian vocabulary, so a Greek verse is recognised among the Hebrew ones by the agreement of the Russian words. It opens with the «line against line» box in the bar above the chapter in either interlinear, and closes with the same box.
  • The «Reading» section was opened — not an interlinear and not a primer, but a road to reading fluently: a small helping of words, and after it a text that reads straight through once they are known. The order was computed on the corpus itself — at every step the passage taken is the one that opens with the fewest new words, so the route runs not by the order of the chapters but from the most accessible, and the first hundred words give almost half of any text. There are three languages: the Greek New Testament, the Hebrew Tanakh, and the Aramaic chapters of Daniel and Ezra. There are no invented exercise texts here, only the text of Scripture, and the aim of a step is 95 % understood, the rest taken apart in the notes under the line.
  • Every chapter was given a «share» icon: a link to the chapter or to the verses picked out, a short one among them. It works in all the sections at once — in both interlinears, in the literary translations, in Lopukhin, in the concordances of variant readings and of word division.
  • The site was fitted to telephones and tablets: the desktop view has not changed, while on a narrow screen the contents, the bar above the chapter and the pop-up notes are rebuilt — they open at a touch. The site can be installed as an application, by a shortcut on the home screen.
  • The commonest settings were brought out into the area above every chapter — going to the settings page and reloading the chapter is needed less often now.

  • 28.07.2026
  • The books of the Hebrew interlinear were published in the PDF version: writing from right to left, the pointing, and the Russian rendering under every morpheme. A third column was set aside for them on the page of PDF versions.
  • A page of statistics was added, which is rebuilt at every publication of the interlinear. As of today 1 222 221 words and morphemes are marked up: 737 122 Greek, 15 792 Latin, 469 307 Hebrew.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 21.06.2026
  • The navigation and the design were brought to one look in all the sections: in the list of books and chapters what is open now is highlighted, every chapter has the same heading bar with the switches, and all the pages share one background.
  • I thank the users of the site for their remarks on convenience — nearly everything done here was prompted by them.

  • 17.05.2026
  • The pages of the interlinear and of the concordances are now built from compact data: the Hebrew interlinear shrank from 232 to 20 MB, the Hebrew concordances from 120 to 13 MB. They open noticeably faster, including when the collection is run straight from a disk.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 29.03.2026
  • The chapters of the Hebrew interlinear were given their «similar places»: the parallels are sought by the agreement of the consonantal skeleton of the words, and so they are found even where the Russian rendering of the two places differs.
  • Corrections were made in the Greek books of Proverbs, the Wisdom of Solomon and Sirach.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 08.02.2026
  • The PDF versions of the books were reworked: a title page, a table of contents with links and bookmarks, cross-references at the end of every chapter, and the details of the book in the properties of the file.
  • The books of 1, 2 and 3 Maccabees, 4 Maccabees, Daniel after the text of the Septuagint, Enoch, the Psalms of Solomon and 3 Ezra were checked through again.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 14.12.2025
  • The concordance of variant readings of the Hebrew text was built: the Masoretic text, ketiv and qere, the Samaritan Pentateuch and the Qumran scrolls — 12 245 variant readings. Gathered there as well are 13 939 ways of dividing continuous writing into words: the consonantal skeleton admits another division, and with it another reading.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 19.10.2025
  • The concordance of variant readings of the New Testament was built anew: 11 witnesses to the text against the base edition UBS5, 63 804 variant readings in all.
  • 151 961 ways of dividing continuous Greek writing into words were added.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 24.08.2025
  • The Greek text of the New Testament was moved from the 4th to the 5th edition of the United Bible Societies (UBS5). Every place where the editions part company was checked again, and the concordances and the cross-references were recomputed.
  • The Greek books of Jeremiah, Ezekiel and Nehemiah were checked through again.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 01.06.2025
  • The settings are now kept in the local storage of the browser and not in cookies alone: Google Chrome keeps no cookies when the interlinear is opened straight from a disk, and such readers were losing their settings.
  • The pop-up windows of the cross-references were repaired.
  • In the Synodal translation (Russian), pointing at a verse shows the answering place of the interlinear.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 13.04.2025
  • The interlinear translation from the Hebrew was added for the twelve minor prophets: Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, Malachi.
  • With that the Hebrew interlinear covers the whole Tanakh — all 39 books.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 23.02.2025
  • The interlinear translation from the Hebrew was added for the books of Ezekiel and Daniel (the Hebrew and the Aramaic text).
  • The concordances were rebuilt from the current text: ghost entries were removed, which had arisen from stray spaces at the edges of the Russian rendering, and the alphabetical index and the order of the entries in the concordances of dictionary forms were corrected.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 08.12.2024
  • Stress marks were placed in those Russian words of the rendering that are written alike and read differently: by the morphological parsing of the Greek word 1061 such places were marked.
  • A reference of the morphological tags of Greek was compiled — 1334 tags; the parsing itself is seen in a pop-up window right in the interlinear.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 20.10.2024
  • The transliteration of Greek words is now given by any of five systems of reading, at choice: the classical pronunciation of Attica of the 5th–4th centuries BC (the scholarly reconstruction of W. S. Allen), the koine of the 1st century AD (after R. Buth and B. Kantor), the Byzantine and the modern Greek, the reading after Erasmus and the reading after Reuchlin. The stressed vowel is marked with a capital letter. The system is chosen on the settings page, where examples are given as well.
  • At the same time three systems of reading Latin were added for the book of 3 Ezra — the classical, the traditional school one and the Roman ecclesiastical — and a primer of Latin. The phonetics of Greek is taken apart in the primer of ancient Greek.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 28.07.2024
  • The interlinear translation from the Hebrew was added for the books of Isaiah, Jeremiah and Lamentations.
  • In the Synodal translation (Russian) a second window can be opened to see the Hebrew text under the Greek — for the books where both are present.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 11.05.2024
  • Three Hebrew concordances were built: the Hebrew-Russian one (the entry is a pointed word form), the Russian-Hebrew one, and the concordance of dictionary forms by Strong’s numbers.
  • A primer of Hebrew was compiled.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 10.03.2024
  • The Greek Psalter was verified in full. Verse 115:5 was restored, which had been dropped in the typesetting; the acrostic of Psalm 118 was restored — the letter headings of its stanzas had been lost; and the articles that had fallen out in a number of psalms were put back.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 17.12.2023
  • The interlinear translation from the Hebrew was added for the books of Job, the Psalter, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and the Song of Songs.
  • The numbering of the psalms in the Hebrew text parts company with the Greek; the divergence is shown at the number of every psalm and explained in the introductory article.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 21.10.2023
  • The interlinear translation from the Hebrew was added for the books of 1 and 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah and Esther. In the book of Ezra the parts written in Aramaic are marked.
  • A Hebrew dictionary was compiled — 8513 entries, in Russian, an entry being comparable in scope with the dictionary of Brown, Driver and Briggs.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 30.07.2023
  • The interlinear translation from the Hebrew was added for the books of 1, 2, 3 and 4 Kingdoms (1 and 2 Samuel, 1 and 2 Kings).
  • From the number of a verse in the Hebrew interlinear one can go to the same place in the Synodal translation: the division into verses in the Hebrew and in the Greek text differs here and there, and that has been taken into account.
  • The Greek books of Job, Joshua, 1 and 2 Chronicles were checked through again.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 19.04.2023
  • The interlinear translation from the Hebrew was added for the books of Joshua, Judges and Ruth.
  • The reading of the Hebrew text is now given by any of eight traditions, at choice: the living readings of the communities — Sephardi, Ashkenazi, Yemenite and Samaritan; three systems of pointing that arose independently of one another — Tiberian, Babylonian and Palestinian; and a scholarly approximation to the pronunciation of the age of the First Temple. The consonantal skeleton of the text is one for them all, but it was pronounced differently, and these readings parted long before the pointing. The tradition is switched right in the heading of the chapter and on the settings page.
  • A reference of the Hebrew morphological tags was compiled — 884 tags.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 28.01.2023
  • The interlinear translation of the Old Testament from the Hebrew was begun. The Pentateuch was published: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy. A Hebrew word usually consists of several morphemes, so the prefixes, the prepositions and the pronominal suffixes are rendered apart from the root; every morpheme has a Strong’s number and a parsing of its own. The pointing and the marks of cantillation are given word for word after the manuscript.
  • The transliteration of Hebrew words is nowhere stored but computed from the pointing itself: the pointing is the record of the pronunciation, and the mark of cantillation stands on the stressed syllable.
  • In the contents a section of its own was set aside for these books. May God bless the man who took the funding of this labour upon himself.

  • 28.12.2022
  • For the book of 3 Ezra, added in the autumn, separate Latin concordances were built: Latin-Russian, Russian-Latin and a concordance of dictionary forms. As this book is translated from the Latin, its concordances were put in a section of their own and are not mixed with the Greek ones.
  • Short dictionary notes on the words that occur were added to the concordance of Latin dictionary forms.
  • The cross-references were recomputed and the PDF versions of the books updated.
  • I thank the users of the site for their remarks and wishes, and all who supported the project in the year now ending.

  • 10.10.2022
  • The interlinear translation of the book of 3 Ezra was added. The Greek original of this book is lost, so the translation was made from the surviving Latin text; it is the only book in the whole collection translated from a language other than Greek.
  • The text is preceded by an introduction with the history of the text and an explanation of the divergences in the numbering of the books of Ezra.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 25.07.2022
  • The interlinear translation of the book of the Psalms of Solomon was added. The text is preceded by a short introduction on the origin and the dating of this monument.
  • The interlinear translation of the surviving Greek fragments of the book of Enoch (1 Enoch) was added. It should be borne in mind that the Greek text has not survived for all the chapters, of which the introductory article gives notice.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 30.05.2022
  • The interlinear translation of the five surviving chapters of the book of 4 Maccabees was added.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 21.02.2022
  • The interlinear translation of the book of Daniel after the Old Greek text of the Septuagint was added. This translation (the so-called «text of the Seventy») has survived in few manuscripts and differs markedly from the more widespread Greek version, and so it is given as a separate text.
  • Other improvements and corrections.

  • 20.12.2021
  • The interlinear translation of the book of 1 Maccabees was added.
  • The interlinear translation of the book of 2 Maccabees was added.
  • The interlinear translation of the book of 3 Maccabees was added.
