Genealog

The program is used to create and work with genealogic information.

How to work with program:

To scroll windows: press left mouse button anywhere at the empty place of the window. Now keeping it down drag it in any direction. Also, you may use scrollbars for the same purpose.

To create new element: press right mouse button anywhere at the empty place of the window. The popup menu will appear. Select appropriate action in menu.

To change position of any element: press left mouse button at this element and after that drag this element to the new location.

To drag the group of elements: shift cursor to the beginning of the group and press simultaneously “Shift” key on keyboard and left mouse button. Now drag mouse to the opposite side corner of the group you want to select. The doted line will surround selected region. After you release mouse button – all elements inside selected region became selected. Press left mouse button on any of these selected elements and drag it to the new position. The rest of elements will be shifted too. To remove selection – click on any free place of the window.

To shift simultaneously several elements what could not be selected by previous method: On each of them click by left mouse button while holding “Ctrl” key down. After you have selected all needed elements – drag any of them to the new place. The rest of elements will be shifted too. To remove selection – click on any free place of the window.

To change any property of element: press right mouse button at that element and select appropriate menu position. Also, you may do the same by double click on this element.

To set or change family relations you may use dialog window with element properties or set this relations by sight. To set relations FatheràChild: drag child-element as close as possible to the element what you want to become father. Now keeping mouse button down press “F” (father) key on keyboard. To set relations MotheràChild: drag child-element as close as possible to the element what you want to become mother. Now keeping mouse button down press “M” (mother) key on keyboard.

It is recommended to use alignment grid to make alignment of elements simpler. The grid may be displayed and tuned by menu “Settings à Detailed settings à Grid”.

To make navigation and edition simpler the scale of diagram is used. You may select appropriate scale by menu “Edit à Scale”.

Background picture, color of window, color of elements, width and color of lines, and other settings may be set by menu “Settings”. All made changes could be dismissed by menu “Settings à Reset settings”.

Created diagrams could be exported into “GEDCOM”, “BMP” and “HTML” formats. You may do this by selecting appropriate extensions while saving diagram into file.

Media files:

The unlimited amount of media files can be connected to any element of a genealogic tree. The photo, audio, video and other information describing this element or concerning to it can be kept in these files. Because of potentially big sizes of this information in the file of a genealogic tree relative ways to media files are remembered only. In addition, each media file can have an annotation which will be displayed by the program for the choused media file. The annotation of the media file is a usual text file having same name, as appropriate media file + extension ".txt". So, for example, if you have media file "alex.avi" and you wish to make the annotation with the indication of date and a place of shooting - create near to this file a file "alex.avi.txt" and write in it the text of the summary.

Themes:

Starting from version 2.4 you may quickly change the style diagram uses by using themes. The list of existing themes you may get by choosing «Settings à Themes à Choose theme..». You may perform additional corrections of the chosen theme by choosing appropriate menu commands under «Settings à Detailed settings». After you receive the most suitable for your needs theme, you can save it for future use in other your diagrams by using menu command «Settings à Themes à Save current theme..».

Computer requirements:

If program works too slowly on your computer: do not use background images, do not show alignment grid, turn off shadows, hide historical events.
